Statins are usually once a day, usually in the evening because most cholesterol synthesis between midnight and 3 clock (An interesting study in 2002 suggested that Lipitor might be taken every day, raising their costs and remain effective.) Statins are often prescribed together with other cholesterol-lowering drugs such as bile acid binding resins, nicotinic acid (niacin) and fibrates.
